Child/Teen

We are trying to develop an innovative program built in a “resident centred” way while also incorporating the latest competency based “Triple C” curriculum theories and the nine Queen’s Family Medicine Domains of Clinical Care (DOCCs).

We will emphasize direct observation with the goal of daily field notes and please remember, while we are offering a new program, many of our preceptors are already experienced teachers.

As an FYI, Queen's Family Medicine divides the calendar into 13 four week blocks of time per year.

Here is what we have planned for...

CHILD AND ADOLESCENT CARE

  • Dr. C. Montgomery is the primary preceptor who is a well-regarded local pediatrician with significant teaching experience
  • goal of a consultant pediatrics service similar to the Behavioural learning experience
  • multiple residents working under Pediatrician supervision in outpatient setting
  • goal of referral from home family practice and the opportunity to see the patients again under pediatric supervision with small group teaching around topical items from the day’s cases
  • approximately 2 half days / month

Here is the link to the Care of Children & Adolescents Brainstorming Spreadsheet which you can access to offer suggestions for local learning experiences in this sphere.
